For over 75 years, The Wigwam Resort & Golf Club has been a favorite destination for golfers, sun-seekers, and visitors who yearn for an authentic Arizona desert experience. When Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company discovered that cotton extended the life of a tire, the company purchased 16,000 acres of Arizona land in 1916 to begin cultivating cotton. In 1918, Goodyear built a private company lodge for visiting executives who fondly dubbed the lodge, “The Wigwam.” Now set on more than 463 picturesque acres of the original parcel of property in the Sonoran Desert, a portion of the original 24-room structure remains amidst the 300 plus oversized casita-style rooms and suites. Located just 25 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, The Wigwam Resort continues its tradition of old-world charm set among the tranquil cacti vistas of the Valley of the Sun.

The Wigwam Resort golf courses recently completed a $5 million renovation on two of its three championship courses. Forrest Richardson, a golf course architect with numerous classic restorations to his credit, oversaw the enhancements of the courses originally designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.
At more than 7,600 yards and par-72, locals and travelers alike affectionately bestowed the moniker of the “Arizona Monster on The Gold Course. Jones original conception of The Gold Course was of a western rival to his famous South Course at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. The Wigwam’s Gold Course is a long and winding layout that can be brutal to the player who has not brought their “A” game. Great golf holes with numerous tee offerings allow the golfer to choose the degree of risk they are willing to experience. Many native topographical features remain unchanged throughout the design, creating stealth-like hazards, interesting scenes, and challenging shot values. Richardson masterfully preserved the creative and authentic feel of Mr. Jones’ concept of “heroic strategies” within the course’s redesign.

The Golf Course’s sister, The Blue Course, underwent considerable changes, including a complete reconstruction of two holes. Described as tricky and subtle, The Blue Course plays to a length just over 6,000 yards, but at a par of 70, creating a deceiving test of golf. Deep and perilous bunkers, ponds, and dogleg fairways provoke exacting strategies and your full attention.

Wigwam Resort’s Red Course is a Red Lawrence creation. His work at the Wigwam is a complement to The Gold and Blue Courses. With a length in between its two siblings, The Red plays alongside and over streams and ponds. Set among a forest of pines and eucalyptus that wind through part of the Wigwam’s exclusive estates development.

A new feature of the Wigwam Resort is the newly expanded Red Door Spa. You can choose from one of the private treatment rooms located within the new 26,000 square foot facility, as well as the many therapeutic menu items featured.

The Wigwam Resort’s adobe-style accommodations are a special experience. Private and oversized, the casitas and suites provide a relaxed, yet luxurious ambiance in which to enjoy the ideal Arizona getaway. Set amidst rows of colorful flowers, lush lawns, and towering palms, you will find a charming village setting of 331 adobe-style casitas ranging from 480 to 612 square feet, providing quiet and privacy for every guest.

The Wigwam Resort’s culinary experience is as unforgettable as the resort’s ambiance; casual and contemporary, regional and refreshing. From a poolside burger or savory southwestern nacho to indulgent, award-winning cuisine, as well as casual fare overlooking the resort’s lush fairways, The Wigwam offers a sumptuous variety of choices.

A tried and true Arizona resort location, The Wigwam Resort will dazzle you with its respect for history, its dedication to ultimate service, and its constant striving to offer the best golf resort experience in the greater Phoenix area.
